About the artist
Maria Ellis
I studied Graphic Design at the Gloucester College of Art and after obtaining a South West Diploma in Art & Design worked for many years as a Graphic artist and visualiser in Advertising. Continuing as a freelance illustrator while having a family.
Now that the children have flown the nest I have returned to my passion of painting and become a full time artist living and working in a beautiful part of Hampshire in England.
I have always loved flowers. All year round there were always a colourful display of flowers, through the seasons, in my parent's garden. And it was this that first alerted me to the beauty of colour. Now I find the ever changing colours and glorious textures of the flowers in my garden and the countryside, provide a wealth of inspiration for my work.
My favourite media are watercolour, and more recently acrylic on canvas.
Colour is everywhere...
Red is a powerful colour: stimulating, lively and very friendly.
Yellow lifts your spirits and self-esteem.
Blue is soothing: light, soft blues calming, and strong blues stimulate clear thought.
